The nominations for the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards are out, and if you’ve been paying attention to the clubs and radio waves, the top contenders won’t surprise you. Peso Pluma leads the pack with a staggering 17 nominations, a testament to his undeniable grip on the global music scene. Hot on his heels are Tito Double P and Fuerza Regida, solidifying the monumental presence of regional Mexican sounds across the board. Even titans like Karol G, Prince Royce, and Bad Bunny, perennial favorites, find themselves in a new landscape, as detailed by Billboard Latin.
Regional Mexican's Unstoppable Ascent
For years, we've watched corridos tumbados evolve from a niche sound to a global phenomenon. Peso Pluma's dominance in categories like Artist of the Year and Top Latin Album for DINASTÍA with Tito Double P isn't just a win for him; it's a massive win for the entire genre. This isn't just about streams and sales; it’s about cultural impact. Artists like Fuerza Regida, with their 12 nods, are pushing boundaries, proving that authentic regional sounds can resonate with audiences far beyond traditional borders. Their track “Marlboro Rojo” is a prime example of this crossover appeal, blending traditional elements with modern production that just hits different on the dancefloor.
But it's not just the men holding it down. Karol G, with nine mentions, continues to reign as a force in Latin Rhythm, demonstrating the power of a global superstar who consistently delivers bangers and epic tours. Her collaboration with Marco Antonio Solís on “Coleccionando Heridas” also shows a savvy crossover into Latin Pop, reminding us that versatility is key to longevity. While Bad Bunny, last year’s leader, still commands respect with seven nominations, the shift towards the distinctive sounds championed by Peso Pluma and his peers is undeniable. It’s a clear signal of where the energy is flowing in Latin music right now.
The LatinMixx Take
